Offensive breakdown:
-Shooting
Great three-point shooter with a fast release, this season he is shooting 39.0% for three on 6.4 attempts per game, which is great because he is taking some hard shots and he has been shooting some NBA range three-pointers. He does not have a mid-range shot in his bag which is a problem, but he has a solid floater which doesn't completely make up for his lack of mid-range
-Ballhandling and passing
Fast and crafty guard, who loves isolations where he is looking to beat his opponent and usually shoots a step-back 3-point shot but he can also get past his opponent and look for options inside like his floater, layup, or kick to an open teammate. Not the most secure ball handler, sometimes ball can be poken out while he is handling it. Able to pass through tight spaces which is very important because of his size. Sometimes when he is not in a good position to finish inside he attempts some bad kick passes
-Pick and Roll
He showed that he can do a lot of things when navigating pick and rolls. He is best when attacking switch coverages, big men can't stay in front of him or contest his shot so he can create for himself and others. Defenses often see that he is small so they play hedge coverage or blitz him but he can handle the pressure and pass through those tight spaces for the roller or he gets out of it and creates a shot for himself. Drop coverage is the one that he doesn't like to attack and the reason for that is his lack of mid-range.
-Off ball
Doesn't play off-ball in offense a lot, these are usually out-of-bounds situations, and he can get a couple of open shots per game out of these plays thanks to his speed and tempo changes
-Transition
Uses his speed in transition and open-court situations, but he is also able to open up those situations with his passes
Defensive breakdown:
-Perimeter
Solid footwork and lateral speed, able to stay in front of elite guards. Has fast hands which allows him to poke the ball from the ball handler sometimes. His size and physical strength are the main reasons why he can't be a good defender at the higher level, his body doesn't allow him to contest shots and he can be scored on easily. Another reason is that he can sometimes have a slow reaction time and it looks like his head is not on the court
-Interior
He is a target in post-ups and not just against big men, even guards will post him up easily. Can be exploited a lot in the higher levels
-Off ball
Bad off-ball defender for the same reason I stated earlier on the perimeter part. He has a slow reaction time and his opponents can get separated from him easily. On the other hand, he can predict opponents passing lanes sometimes and intercept those passes
Conclusion:
Talented offensive player, but not that talented so his defense can be neglected, maybe he can be if he adds the mid-range to his game which will open up a whole other dimension to his game. On the defensive side of the floor, there are things that he can do nothing about because of his size, but he should work on the things he can so he can be a less of a target in defense
